Late Archery- Winston
« on: November 28, 2011, 09:34:07 PM »
Who's goin to be down in 520 this year? I'll be headed down on Thurdsday, wondering how many others might be joining me.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I may be back this weekend, haven't made up my mind yet. I hunted it hard on Thanksgiving and wasn't too impressed with what I saw or should I say, didn't see.
I'll probably hunt it Saturday and if I have the same results as last week I'll probably spend Sunday in Ryderwood. :twocents:

You have to find locked gates to have a decent chance.  So many road hunters keep the ones that aren't behind locked gates running for their lives.

They are in there, keep at it and good luck.

Crunchy, I'm a Mt bike hunter for the most part and I was considering the winston unit, but I'm unfamiliar with it, I spent the early season on the peninsula. Do you know any areas that have more locked gates than the others, I thought that whole unit was weyrhauser and open. Are the main lines passable with a passenger car?, I drive a honda civic...yep a civic. Any info would be hugely appreciated PM if you prefer.

The open gates change each year, so I don't have any good info for you.  I can dig through my gps from years past, but I am not certain how good it will be for you.

If there is NO SNOW up there like there was during late buck modern then yes the roads should be fine just bumpy cause they haven't graded them... Also be VERY CAREFUL for Logging Trucks as they are coming down and going up!

It's a crowded place on Weyerhouser land. The campers are all lined up on the 504 Rd and at the junction of 505. We saw many dozens of vehicles every day last week. Most are driving the roads all day long. Get in the woods and you have a chance.

Was down in the Winston last 3 days and didn't see any animals. Put a lot of miles on the truck tryin to find something to chase. Got out quite a few times to find fresh track and found minimal. Very slow down there. Good luck to whoever is headed to 520.
