Gun Safe
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:48:01 PM »
I just bought a house and I am moving. I will not be able to keep my gun safe in my bedroom.  Would any of you consider putting it in the garage?

As long as you can bolt it in and it isn't a pretty safe (i.e. one with a glass door,) I say go for it.

Sure, just bolt it down!

You can get a glowrod for your safe for like $40 or so, put that in and it will just slightly warm the interior of the safe and help air circulate a bit inside.

Isn't humidity a bigger issue and always a worry with guns? Just keep em oiled and try to keep the air in the safe as dry as possible.

Sure garage is fine. Bolt it down. And if you worry about it go to Home Depot and for 40.00 get a portable contruction alarm. Runs on rechargeable Battery comes with it. Motion detection. Will wake the dead.

good point but if the guy bought the house. I would crawl under and reinforce the floor to handle it  only take a few minutes and more piece of mind :twocents:

rofl...If the safe came up missing I would just track the 10 guys toting it down the street by the blood trails squirting from their asses! It's not exactly light weight.

Thanks for the advice. I would love to have it in my room but with the way the bedroom is set up and where the doors are for the bathroom and walk-in and with my bedroom furniture there just isnt a place I can put it:(  It is just me and my baby boy in the house.....no guy.

Put it in the garage and make sure it is bolted very well. Bolt it down in the concrete if possible. You can always put up a curtain blocking a portion of the garage so people don't see it whenever your garage door is open.

If you are moving somewhere nearby I could help you out with a rotohammer to drill the holes in the concrete.
