Trust me the 32" buck was a pig, not symmetrical enough with too much/too little trash to make it score great in typical or non-typical.  I also don't doubt that the guy could have shot a 28" masher from the truck (which is illegal BTW).

I am just saying that most of the guys I have known that did very well with the tag were not road hunting as 300wby is implying.  To poke fun at someone else and say it is an easy hunt because one guy shot one 15 mins into the season just kind of hit me wrong I guess.  I know guys that have hunted that area for many, many years and it is very unforgiving country.
Dont be so sensitve. I wasnt pokin fun.  Road huntin isnt illegal, just so ya know. im just sayin, if you draw one of the top 10 mulie tags in the state and ya luck out and get some snow, you shouldnt have to look to hard to find one worth puttin on the wall.
How do you know guys that have hunted that area for many many years? how do they manage to draw that tag so often? if you mean you know guys that hunt the general season, then your not really on the same page.
Im just sayin.

The weak crab claw rear gene pool in Chelan and Douglas counties are a real score killer for the wide bucks. It takes a late tag, the rut and real work to get on the ones  with the length and width. On the other hand, just plain dumb luck has worked for some here and there.

I saw a buck a cuple of years back in there that was 34-36 with deep forks front and rear , he had a 28 inch buck with him that was in the 170s that he just dwarfed . Thats a buck that I still dream of .

Its not illegal to road hunt but it is illegal to shoot from the truck or from the road.  I know guys that grew up in that area and hunted it during general and they have also been pretty fortunate in drawing tags or someone they know drawing a tag.  These guys spend a lot of time in the hills whether they have a tag or not anyway.

I know what you are saying too Biggerhammer.  I have seen some great bucks in the Mission and Swakane with everything you could want and then either 2" crab claws in the back or just plain a 3X4.

I skinned out a slide ridge for a draw rifle hunter this year. He was from SW Washington. The buck scored a little over 170.
