Carbon, aluminum or mag?
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:18:34 AM »
While I am impressed with the new carbon bows, I'm just not sold on price.  Twice the mag in change.  I also wonder if the 2012 models are that much better than the 2011 units.

I shoot, but not competitive.  I hunt, but this will be the first year with a bow.  I've held and pulled Hoyt, PSE, Bear and Martin.  Spent time in a pro shop jawing over the benefits.  Fully outfitted, the new carbon sets me back too much.  In addition, I have two to buy as my son grew over 8" this year and his bow can't keep up with that growth.

I trust experience from others.  When you buy a new bow, do you go for the premium bow?  Will you, do you plan to or have you bought a carbon recently?  Was the shoot that much better?

History:  I have shot long bows, recurves, and compounds.  In my family, we have five bows--3 compounds and 2 recurves.  I shoot compound 60# 31" draw without a release or a site.  My son (15) shoots a compound 47# 27" draw without a release, but with a pin site.  He also shoots a 25# recurve.  My wife shoots my son's recurve purely for sport and non-competitive.  My 13 yr old daughter won't shoot the bows.  She tried, but not her thing.  My 8 yr old shoots a 15# 15" draw compound and a ambidextrous recurve.  She is a lefty.  We have been shooting for fun for over 8 years.  It is time to get serious.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm 15 miles from Seattle and Tacoma along I5.  Who carries the elite and alpine?  I tried a Bowtech, wasn't my fit.

My humble opinion is you better get a hot. I shoot the carbon element and love it. Sure it costs more but I think its well worth it. You might try the new vector or crx. Both are top notch bows also :twocents:
If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Wilderness Archery in Bow, Wa (just north of MT Vernon sells the Elites, and I think Riverside in Mt Vernon sells Alpine.
