I was out on the 3rd of July up by Dewatto. We soaked 5 pots for 4 hours and pulled about 30 crab, all sublegal or female dungies. At the same time we had a few rings soaking in shallow rockier water and kept 9 red rocks and 1 keeper dungie. From what I have heard, it has been pretty bad for crabbing in the southern hood canal. I will try again in a couple weeks while I am salmon fishing from Ayock to Hoodsport.

Not worth the gas to crab near seabeck or dabob bay.  We hit it hard over the 4th for very few crab considering the effort.  Tribes have done a number on it the last few years.

Ayock area has been terrible according to a bud. South Sound has been equally bad, we're 0-2 on keeper Dungies. I spoke recently with the crabbing manager for that area and there is a huge amount of support to have shorter, alternating sport and tribal season's, so there really is 50% of the resource left available to sporties, as it should be. May happen this year. It is a little bit skewed because some MA's have a high sport harvest, with little tribal harvest, while other MA's have 80% tribal harvest. It should be managed 50% per MA. You can't expect people to travel to the San Juan's if they live three hours away just to catch crab, there should be equal opportunity throughout the Sound.
