Warden Coyote Roundup

The roundup is coming to town again. :rtup:
We have finally recieved our permit. Feb. 3rd-4th are the dates to save on your calendar.
Come to Warden and support our Lions club community fundraiser. All money stays local in our community.
We are working on a big sponsor from a local hunting supply store. I am looking for a speaker to give a calling demonstration at our banquet, either with electric or mouth calls. Any advice would be appreciated. I am trying to make this a better hunting/social event and less focus on the contest. Let me know what you think.

last year it was 100 for a 2 man team and included the raffle and dinner at the end of the event...

What kind of gun are you raffleing this year? Is it going to be held at the hanger? Any additional shooting events like years past? Acouple of years ago a local farmer won the rifle I think it was a Rem 17 fireball??? and he said he liked his own rifle give to someone else.  So they did... I could use a good one tho, the 30-06 don't shoot as flat as a nice 243 or 22-250.

Weigh-in, Banquet, raffle, and shooting contest will all be at the Warden Airport Hanger again.  Our deal with the local hunting supply did not go through as I had hoped but we will push again for next year.
I am going to pick out the rifle this week and  order the raffle prizes this week. It's going to cost us a lot more out of pocket $ rather than the donations we had hoped for.
I am also going to pick up our fair pig from the butcher today to get ready for the big bar-b-q

With the new snow around here everyone is getting the itchy coyote finger, can't wait to go spend 24 hours with my best friend hunting.

Hope everyone else will support our club, It only takes one fat dog to be in the money.

I hope not.  I have no problem embarassing a stupid moron if they try to pull a fast one.  I have never hunted this area but from personal experience am very intrigued with possiblilities in this region.

If its like years past the area involved is pretty big. I think it encompases all of the surrounding counties from grant with out crossing the river... I think it was the 1st or second year i went that there was a team with a huge number of dogs, that was some what suspect.. Back then the pay off was $500 for biggest dog male, female, and most number. I know acouple years back they made places 1st-3rd pay so that there was less inclination to cheet. For my half of the $100 (50) i get a dinner and a raffle and the chance to make it pay. I look forward to whacking yotes each year and having a cold one after the derby...

Last year i liked watching all the big talkers about how great a shot they were miss the steel target at the 50/50 shoot. Lota guys that think they are snipers that can't his a life sized  Stationary coyote target at distance... I wonder if they will be doing that again...

Ken, I have never hunted the Warden areas so I can't say one way or the other, but just be sure to do some scouting and asking for permission to hunt on the lands there. If it's anything like where I hunt, which is mostly private land, that will most certainly impact your success.

I say go for it and enjoy the event.

Someone that may be able to assist you in areas to hunt is Jerry Malbeck, I believe he is knowledgeable of that area, send him a pm for advice.

lol small towns they are real bad at gettin coyotes from theirs buddies teams that have less coyotes from them and wont win, if there is a lot of snow they are famous for alot of running down coyotes on sleds in that tourney, good luck tho

so how was the out come?  we where thinking of joining, but couldnt make the beginning deadline   so we went out anyway and got 3 should have had 5-6

Well We had a good dinner and some drinks after the hunt.  The most number of yotes was 10, Biggest males was 33lbs ish...Something like 65 teams and 95 yotes down... At the weigh in they had a guy cooking up thick slab Bacon for appitiesers, Cold stuff to drink and lots of pullted pork, beans and colesaw for dinner. My team only got 2 yotes,  and we should have had acouple more. There was a $200 gift card from Tri state outfitters given away, a Savage, .223 from High MT outfitters, 2 nights @ the Mardon resort, and a bunch of other stuff... We didn't get in the $$$  But had a good time. Can't wait to set up on the edge of the cattle and call again!

There was a team that had "11" but they were disqualified. It was determined that they did not shoot all of their dogs. There was a 3 way tie with 10 dogs so I belive they went by who turned in the dogs first.... I know some guys  on this derby, but the Lions club has done its best to make this a more fair contest... If you went to the contest and think something needs to change, i would bet that they are open to sugestions... This is a Lions club fundraiser, so i'm sure they want people to have a good time and come back.
