I'm in the same boat. I want to get a few trail cams to help my chances so I dont end up eating tag soup again, but I dont want to spend alot of money just in case it gets ripped off.

Try Moultrie cameras. I have one of those flash cameras that are pretty cheap now ( anywhere from $69-$100) and it took over 13000 this year, yes i said thirteen thousand, with no problems. One thing your gonna find though is that the cameras that are more efficient with battery use, pay for themselves in a hurry! If you want to see the quality of the photos my Moultrie flashcam took checkout that thread "best trailcam pics of 2011" and i think its on page 2. I posted 4 pics from that camera.
Aim small, miss small.

I'd second moultries. I have had a few of those working overtime for three years now, and no problems. I think there are several under $100.

I would advise you to stay away from any Stealth Cam.  :twocents:

It depends on what you want and how you're going to use it. Will you use it with bait? If so, you don't need a camera with a fast trigger speed. Do you want color pictures at night? If so you'll want a regular white flash camera, not an infrared. There are some good deals going on right now because some retailers are trying to get rid of their 2011 models to make room for the new 2012 models which I guess should be arriving soon. I've seen the Moultrie D50 for $50. Good camera, just kind of outdated, but they are reliable and take good pictures. Battery life is the downfall, as they take 6 D batteries, and in summer/early fall I get 6 weeks, and that I don't mind. But, if you try to use them now with the colder temperatures, you may get as little as 2 weeks. If you want an infrared cam, I've seen the Primos Truth Cam 35 for $60 and Wal Mart has the Primos Truth Cam 46 online right now for $99 and that includes a $25 mount. If you want to go really cheap you could get a Tasco from Wal Mart for $50, that way you could get two. You will most likely find that one camera isn't nearly enough.

ALmost all the low end cams have bad trigger speeds...u need something to hold them in front of cam. They go to sleep after long periods of of no activity. So if you can imagine setting a cam on a trail with no bait and trying to catch deer or elk that are going by their normal daily bussiness your not going to have alot of pics. So the first animal to hit sensor will wake the cam up then if theres nothing else it goes back to sleep.
