Dual fuel smoker ready and put to test
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:56:27 PM »
I built NG a LP smoker with the use of turkey fryer and old side burner from BBQ  . I went overboard a little ,but all my friends think it is so cute.... I used the plans guys had posted here ,got turkey fryer from Lowe's modified that a little ( I put the burner close to the grill by cutting the holder and inserting it deeper into the ring and installed aluminium insert into the burner ,because the way it came -was giving too much heat . Trying to adjust the flame by the regulator would jump the flame and die. So I cut little washer with about 1/2" hole in the middle to limit the amount of gas coming in and sandwiched that under the upper piece of burner assembly-the one with the grooves where the flame comes out ) It is done so I can smoke cheese at temps below 100F .Also gutted the thermocouple with the timer that same attached to the regulator . I haven't used the legs at all instead used couple of recessed sink L clips and mounted it on piece of sheet metal and ply . The upper burner could be completely removed on the sheet and I can use the lower burner .
The lower burner is old side burner from BBQ where I have switched the orifices for natural gas and hooked it to my house gas line . ( I have just came out with the gas piping from the laundry through the wall onto the patio .)
It is connected by 6' hose with quick connects .That burner will heat somewhere around 120F min .
So today is my first trial - had 40lbs of pork curing in the fridge for 3 weeks -hmmmmmm it smells so good raw -along with 4 slabs of belly .
Will let you know how it came out .
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

That looks like a really good smoker!
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

That smoke house looks awesome. Did you season it first? I would be a tad worried about some odd taste from the glue in the plywood!!  :twocents:
