Pilchuck might be my favorite river to fish.  I thought it was an unwritten rule that no one ever speaks of catching steelhead on the pilchuck.

It probably doesn't matter much anymore.  With the state of wild steelhead in Puget Sound rivers and the proposed permanent early closure, the days of c/r fishing nates on the Pil in February are over...probably forever.   Glad I was able to enjoy it back in the day.

i would slay'em if the river was in the last two weeks of feb,they close it now when whatever fish are left  come in i dont even go anymore this fish was my last one 09 feb the river used tobe open till march 31st  the good ol days

With the early closure AND the fact it is no longer planted there's no reason to fish it anymore.  I gave up on it a couple years ago.

My first time steelheading was on that river somewhere around 93. All i really remember is walking in the snow down a trail and a guy came walking out with a monster.  I always loved fishing the Pilchuck.

I caught my first steelhead on the Pilchuck in 1984 and enjoyed good fishing for many years.  I often had that river to myself back then.  Most of my favorite access points are gone now.  No trespassing, new houses etc..  It will never be the same.  Just memories now.  Pretty sad for me, but I'm glad I got to experience it.

yes i started fishing it in 1975 ,time trapped in a bottle the river and access was totaley differnt it was a experince i never shall forget

I have never fished it.  I just started fishing last October.  I am just starting to learn how to fish the Snoqualmie river starting at Fall City and working my way down river.  But it sure looks like a fun place to fish.

That's why we fish em!! That fish is every bit of 33" ...could be every bit of 40 3/8"??

Beautiful fish.
Biggest nate, and the biggest winter run for me, came out of the 'chuck back in the early 90's.  Estimated her to be in the 22-24 range.  Could have bonked her and brought her home that day but turned her loose to do her deed.
That was a handful to get her in quick in that little river and turn her around to not tire her out anymore than I did. 
3-4 casts later I think her old man picked up my offering.  He spit me out after 2-3 seconds.  Good for him!!  Would have cried having to release him too.

hey you know where i live come on over and we can hit some of these holes i have access to for old time sake... lol. never know if something will take it. i'm itching to go even though i know there isn't much in the way of fish anymore.

anybody fished it this year? thinking bout running out there today but not sure yet. my biggest steelhead is from that river.. 24 lb buck according to the length and girth scale
