Backpack with gunpouch/holder
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:50:41 PM »
I am looking for a backpack such as this:
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Bags-Packs|/pc/104791680/c/104392080/Cabelas-Extreme-Alaskan-Outfitter-Pack-and-Frame/1229740.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2F_%2FN-1105017%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680

Is there a particular name for these types of packs?
I am looking for one that is relatively cheap, it doesnt have to hold quite so much volume of space as the cabelas pack but I would like it to have a gun-holder.

If there isn't one available... what alternatives are there? I take any old backpack and zip up the rifle vertically in the pack... or something like that but that seems cheesy and not really good protection for the rifle.

Sorry, fixed it

I searched Midway USA's entire inventory, they had a nice looking one for $180 ish, but I like this $30 option  :)
Anychance you might remember names/brands?

$30?   Have you loaded it up heavy yet and gone for a hike?   I've had inexpensive packs fail days from the trail head.  Not Fun.

Found  several reviews of the Fieldline Glennwood pack, pretty good for $30.

:chuckle: Is there anything you can't find reviews of on line?

Thanks for the thoughts guys

I took your thought into careful consideration there mike, I thought attempting a 5 mile one way hike/hunt carrying maybe 100lbs of gear to have a cheap $30 pack rip/break somewhere around midway might not be really fun.

Then end up replacing it every year might be just worth the bit more for it.

So looking at this
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Bags-Packs|/pc/104791680/c/104392080/Cabelas-Extreme-Alaskan-Outfitter-Pack-and-Frame/1229740.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2F_%2FN-1105017%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104392080#BVRRWidgetID

there is a picture of a slab of meat. I have only hunted so far in areas where you basically can drive out to the downed game. Question is in this territory (Western Washington) I think you can only pack game out, since most everything is gated.

Anyway, how much deer meat can I fit onto one of these frames? All edible meat or make two trips?   ;)

The new badlands 2200 come with a rifle holder that clips at the bottom and adjusts for the lenght of your rifle.  The rifle gets wrapped inside the "batwings" for protection.  Is a pretty nice setup and works well for me.

I use a badlands 2800  and it works well for me plus the pack is quiet.

Bull pack makes nice gear that is indestructable and they have a new rifle holder option. The pack frame and bag arent cheap but they will be passed down to your grandkids.. they have come out with a new pack designed to accomadate the alice pack bag for fans of those. I think the feildline is ok for light duty and just hauling out a qtr..i had to modify mine with some lashing pts  ill post a pic of that mod..worked out well.
