Coyote mating season ?
«

Ok first off I have always been told that the only stupid question you have is the one you dont ask. So here goes. They make estrus calls for elk so do they make a similar kind of call to attract coyotes the same way. Or do i go about hunting them right now just like any other day.

I've got a few calls on my Foxpro Scorpion that are supposed to attract male coyotes. "Female Whimpers", and two versions of the "Female Invitation". Do they work? Don't know yet. Tried them a while back, but conditions for hunting weren't very good that day. time will tell...

What your are looking for is called a estrous chirp. Not sure at what time they start breeding and how long there gestuation rate is, but I beleive if you look up the birththing times and go backward from there you will know when they breed. I do know that the female paws at the male to get him in the mood.

That's interesting. I'm just getting into to coyote hunting so I'm looking in all directions for tips and ideas. I just want to make sure that when I go out again I can be as prepared as possible. I would like to have successful hunts in the future.
Thanks for your input.

I must warn you that coyote hunting is very additicive, time consuming, and costs a lot of money
I may be wrong, but IMO it has the highest failure rate as well. Welcome to the addiction!

I hear ya. But its no different then when i started my Toyota build. Your always looking the next best thing to aid in improvements and the enjoyment of a good trip or in this case a hunt. And there is a ton of coyotes behind my house i hear them almost everynight so i figure its another reason to get in the woods. I just want to have the right equipment.

If I had coyotes behind my house they would be hunted quick. Your lucky to have that! I have to drive either 2 hours off island, and or door knock on several homes to ask permisson to hunt the island yotes.

I maybe lucky to have them back there i just cant get them in the open. They like to stay in the thickets. Alot of guys I have talked to on here said i should bait them out but i didnt think it was legal to bait anymore.

Legal to bait them but not bears. Do you have a tree stand? Thats my main choice for yote hunting. Put it up and let it sit for a few days unless your in a area that it will get nabbed. I then put my foxpro out about 50 yards climb the tree wait about 10 minutes for nature to forget im there and I start the call sequecne. Sit really STILL, and slowly turn your head when you need to, dont itch your face or pass gass.
I prefer this method becuase I can seem them coming in from a ways vs a ground stand when you have less than asecond to respond at times. But find what works for you bro, experiminet a little.

Or you can use a decoy...

this might might have been said but coyote mating season starts ramping up after the first of the year and i believe finishes up around mid march early april, male coyotes are suppose to come into female invitation call pretty easily, wounded rabbit and distress calls dont really work for males at that time, they are thinkn with their dumbsticks instead of their bellys
