I'm looking for any info on the swakane during general rifle season. any help would be greatly appreciated. not looking for any secret spots, just a point in the right direction, and any pics or stories of bucks killed in that unit in general season. thanks

yes they do kill nice deer check the swakane and eagle creek drainages, and the ridges listed on the topo of the area and get away from the roads. depending on the summer check w/ local wildlife biologists to see how high they are able to feed....you will almost find a few Bruisers up high but very scattered unless a good cold spell comes in and that early its not likely....

Name me a general hunt that isn't tough and doesn't have a ton of people.

I could name a few, but then there'd be more people and it'd be tough now wouldn't it???

There will be a lot of road hunters with binoculars looking into the canyons.  They will get some nice bucks but the "crazys" get the big old smart bucks.  Very few people will get off the road and hunt down off the ridges.  The most productive hunts are when you get a ride to the top and hunt down to the valley floor and to your waiting ride.  Roaring Creek is a good bet on the Entiat side and Spencer is productive on the US97 side.  Find spots and check them out.  Scouting does work, you are hunting for local deer; the migrators come in later.

i'm not concerned with road hunters, most don't get out of the truck. besides that gas is too expensive to road hunt. i was just wondering if they actually kill some decent bucks in there in general season, or is it just a late hunt. obviously the later the better. last year i drew an entiat a tag, so i figured i would hunt the swakane this year. i'm just looking to learn the unit and hopefully kill a decent buck.
