In need of a scouting partner, Southwest Washington
« on: February 08, 2012, 11:36:50 PM »
Looking for someone who has a vehicle that can drive logging roads in Southwest Washington, (Williams Creek unit 673)
I actually hunt Bear River 681, but camp in WC, and see a lot of trucks drive by...
If I knew where some gates were from my access point (access from Radar Ridge, State land) and boundaries of State, Hancock, Weyerhauser, etc...
I might look for good hunting there, but my vehicles are not dependable (mini-van, accord) , and I dont want to get stuck...
So,...
If you want to share fuel costs, hunting stories, etc..
Spend a little time just learning the area, getting all open roads on my GPS, and looking for places to hunt in the southern portion of WC, ...
I need a partner for whenever we can get together, and drive around until our kidneys hurt, get out and look at a few spots, stare through some glass, look for sheds, whatever...
I am really interested in why only a few trucks drive past my camp, but last year, 1/10 had an Elk in the back (Archery season)
As far as I can tell, it is all roads, not gated, but the gates off 101 are all closed into area, except for the 2 that go past my camp, and those are on way in to unit.
I would like to learn what is on North side of Radar Ridge (open/closed/gated/ditched, etc...) but am chicken shat to try in my own vehicles...

All of that area is currently walk in only even if the gates are open.  You may want to bike around.  Primary owner north of Radar is Hancock.  Farther north is Rayonier with a bunch of smaller ownerships mixed in.

Well, as far as top of road (state land, there are no gates, and were trucks driving through..  :dunno:
As I said, I hunt down the hill, and across the pavement, but still, after seeing trucks come out with Elk, I would like to find the gates (or signs) and get to know the area better, but have no trouble finding Elk, I just am curious...
