Wing bone calls are very ez to make. My wife does the art.
Google wingbone calls for help. There's nothing like calling in your bird with a call you made.

How did you get your calls so nice and white? I boiled mine in water and bleach to get the meat off, but it still has a lot of yellow to it. If I ever make one that is more of a showcase call, I am going to use your method. Those are beautiful. Mine is just the three sections glued together and bare, but it sounds good.

First I didn't roast my wings with the bird. I boiled the meat off, then cut the ends and cleaned the marrow out. Then I reboiled them in bleach water.

I think I went a little light on my bleach, but I was too impatient to give it another bath. Your wife did a great job as well on the artwork.

Excellent job on the bones. Looks like they work as good as they look.
Here are a few of mine.

Great job guys...I tried one once and the guy left some crap in one of them and I sucked too hard that was nasty!!!
They do work good. If you can spit watermelon seeds you can use one of these. I have lots of wings I should try and make one..

Nice looking calls Ed. Do you only use turkey wing bones? I was thinking of trying Goose wings.

Pa Ben: those are works of art. I have to admit I have never seen a wing bone call. How do they work and what do they sound like? Why wing bones? I guess I haven't been hunting turkeys long enough to be familiar with the subject of wing bone calling. I'm just learning diaphram calls, box calls, and friction calls. Do you sell these?

Nice man! I have always wanted to make one. My old man makes box calls, he is not an artist when it comes to detail but let me tell you these things bring the toms a running! The two at the top my dad made and the bottom two were made by the late Howard House. For those of you who do not know who Howard is he is a master carver and made some of the most beautiful calls you will ever see. Not only were his calls unbelievably detailed they worked too! He won 1st place at the National NWTF box call making competition. He was a great man and a great teacher. I learned a few tricks from him. He passed this last year right before turkey season. It was a major loss to the NWTF and to this state. Howard you are missed!

Sorry to hear about your Dad, those are good looking calls. The wing bone call is one of the oldest calls. The Indians used them. To work the call you suck on it with your lips, they make a nice yelp. Most turkeys haven't heard the wing bone call, so they seem to respond well to them.

Ben, very nice calls !! And great looking birds also !
I have a wingbone that I picked up from Ed Blankinship this year while hunting in E. Wa, but didnt have a chance to really use it.
BC you have a piece of history right there !! Anyone who knew Howard loved him and was blessed to have met such a remarkable man. He is missed.

Nice looking calls.
I have made a few, not as nice looking as these but serviceable. I like to put the year, date or some thing pertaining to the bird on them.
Especially nice to hunt with when using my 12 gauge flint lock that I hand made
I met Ed Blankenship in a store that sells his calls. I very informative person. He has helpful information on his web site "Gobblers End" concerning call making.

I made one several years back. when I did the research on them, it said to use bones from a hen. Thats what I did. Is there a differnt tone from one that is made from a tom?

Hen bones make a softer call like a hen. Tom bones sound like Jake yelps. I've had good success with both.
