Cabo San Lucas fishing
« on: February 27, 2012, 12:32:25 PM »
The little lady and I are going to Cabo at the end of May for a week long vacation. I don't plan on doing much other then sitting on the beach with a cold beer but she really wants to go fishing. Does anybody have a good recommendation on who to go with?

Sounds like you already got a keeper! Gordo Banks Panga's are cheaper than many others, but it's usually best to get a cruiser, after all it is a vacation. And if ya split it with another couple, so much the better. 26 ft Super Panga can be good deals, but no promises, as each captain and crew is different, and they don't speak english usually. Marlin is the same. The deck hand will tell you either "wheel" "Leel" "Reo" or just spin his hand around after handing you the rod. That means reel in American, and do it quick as those fish move fast. If the deck hand tries to grab the rod, let him, as they are setting the hook for ya. Those fish have hard mouths, don't be afraid to reef on em. Best of Luck!

Heard a lot of good things about RedRum. Was down there and walked by most of their boats. They looked like they all were in excellent condition and the gear was very up to date. I went with Cabo Magic, caught some fish, the boat didn't break down, saved a few bucks. I would not recommend them.

I went out with these guys in 2009 and caught a 120lb Striped marlin and two sail fish, plus some Dorado.  The info below is from 2009 too, so it may or may not be current.  Have fun!

My wife and I went fishing in Cabo in September of '08 aboard the Rebecca Ann (Pisces Sportfishing) and landed 3 striped marlin and a dorado. Killer trip, big fish and a great captain/crew (Jose Ramon Alucado). This is a mainstream outfit that may not be the cheapest, but the trip was worth every penny. We booked the boat to ourselves to make sure we caught fish and it was worth it. Here is the link to this guide: http://www.piscessportfishing.com/

Good luck and have fun (bring dramamine and beer!)
