After you skin it, I never use hemostats like mentioned, if it is too smelly to suit you or to clean up yourself if you have an accident here's the cleaning solution.

In a plastic bucket, mix well the following ingredients:

1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

1/4 cup of baking soda

1 to 2 teaspoons liquid soap

One quart of warm tap water may be added to enable complete coverage.

Wash  and thoroughly, work the solution deep into the fur. Let your nose guide you, leave the solution on about 5 minutes or until the odor is gone. Some heavily oiled areas may require a "rinse and repeat" washing.

If you have any cuts on your hands you might want to wear latex gloves.

After treatment, thoroughly rinse with warm tap water.

Better than nothing.

I would have to totally disagree with that!  But hey, if you're happy then I'm happy for you.

Do as Machias says. I gently place the covered trap in a big cooler that I have adapted to plumb into a 20# co2 cylinder. A minute of gas. and I'm down the road. In a cat cubby or other brushy place you must shoot skunk. .22 short behind shoulder, or in center of chest if he won't give you his side. They usually act like you missed, then slowly lay down. Now I use either a .177, or .22 pellet gun with equal success. I pelt all skunks, the essence is invaluable as lure. After the essence is extracted the carcass is always used in vecinity of a cat set as a draw.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity...

Sarcasm makes smart people laugh and stupid people mad.

No computer, just my phone for the moment. After getting a better look at him the pelt was really beat up, so he got donated to the crows. Kinda disappointed, but at the same time i finally caught something, so its all good.
