Need to upgrade 44 mag sights
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:12:45 AM »
My side arm is a S&W 329 PD Alaskan Backpacker in 44 mag. I love the gun and shoot it well but the sights on it suck in most light situations. Its got the v notch in the back and a brass bead on the front, its really hard at times to see that front bead. Any suggestions? I suppose I can color or paint the front bead, but the back notch could use a little color as well. My dad just put an XS sight on his 41 mag and its pretty awesome and easy to see and use, just thought I would get some opinions on here before I spend $90 bucks like he did on his...  :yike:

Thanks for any thoughts or opinions

you might want to check out hi-viz. I have it on 2 pistols gp100 in 357 m and 22 mark 2 target/hunter and my shotgun. The green pip ;)e works extremely well for gathering light, definately worth a look  ;)
Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

The v sucks. Call smith and ask them for the original hi viz....it is as good as it gets shy of tritium.

I had my smith put the Hi Viz sights on my XDm 9mm and they are the ticket!

I have the 329 PD with 4" barrel and titanium cylinder .44mag...

Same V notch rear sight, but a fiber optic front.
Hit up Midway Usa or similar...or even S&W directly for the more traditional rear sight. Made a world of difference for me.

That being said...fun revolvers, aren't they?
I've got about 500rnds through mine since purchase last Aug...my hand goes numb much faster than shooting a full size .500.
I left it better than I found it...did you?

Yeah mine is basically the same gun as yours only a 2 1/2 inch barrel and a stainless cylinder. They are fun guns I love packing it almost as much as shooting it. Ive shot mine a lot a have worn a lot of the black paint off of it, I pack it every where I go. It shoots fairly well for being such a short barrel and mine really doesn't kick too bad, my practice rounds are loaded with maxed out 240 SWC, while the loads I use when carrying are maxed out 300 XTP's, the 300's definitely start to make the hands numb up a bit  :chuckle:

Mine is back at smith for a rebuild. Keep an eye on the blast shield, they seem to get cut every few thousand rounds.

Well here is what I decided on after shooting my dads again, its super easy to see and use, like setting a golf ball on a tee and squeeze the trigger  8)
