Bears out already?
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:12:33 PM »
So I was out hiking around with my dog today and came across three stumps that were torn up very recently.  I looked around for bear sign, prints, scat, hair, but didn't see anything.  Do you think it was a bear, or what else would tear up stumps like that?  I was near Graham, WA, if that matters.

There is a good chance of it, they are out on the westside earlier.  There has already been bears out in the blues.  On more mild winter like this they will be into a semi hibernation mode because of some slopes they hibernate on have way less snow than in normal years.

Saw some sow and cub tracks early February up on the Cascade river. They were very fresh.

Last year was hard with that weird spring. Where I shot my bear at, the next day had 2" of fresh snow! I just got lucky and found a big older boar that was ready to get out and stretch his legs

That is what happened with us last year, we hunted more of the local bears in the unit we had been drawn for. We were seeing the same bears over and over.   Years like last year were not normal. Hopefully we will get round two with the monster boar that got away from us last year

Well then, it sounds like the bears are out!  If anyone is drawn for the Kapowsin spring bear tag, let me know and I'll show you where the bears have been digging around, if you are interested.
