Grew up hunting on private family land in the black hills. My great uncles had over a thousand acres up the Mox Chehalis Road. It was open to the public in those days, but the uncles finally got tired of people leaving gates open and dumping garbage and changed it to hunting by permission only. When I got older, I hunted private timberland for deer, mostly Weyerhauser and Rayonier, but we always hunted elk on Forest Service land near Quinault.

When I moved to Alaska I strictly hunted public land. One of the nice things about Alaska is, there is plenty of public land.

Now I'm back to hunting a mix of private and public timberland. Any more, I actually prefer public. A lot of the private land is being locked up or going to lease only hunting here.

Deer- Private 95% of the time.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOO HOO! WHAT A RIDE!!"

I voted a little of both.  I generally hunt the regulars seasons on public land and the late season on private ground. I usually get let everyone in my hunting party get there deer first and then go for mine.  So I usually end up getting my deer in the late seasons on private ground.

I hunt blacktails on the westside.  I mainly hunt near my house which consists mainly of weyerhauser and DNR timberland.

I would say 95% of all my hunting is on public, I do hunt ducks on all private, and I have hunted deer on private during late archery season here on the westside, but have never had the oppurtunity to kill anything.
I would rather be a conservative nut job, than a liberal with no nuts, and no job!

Public Land primarily. It's much easier to "spread out" and cover a lot of ground which is one the keys to finding exceptionally big animals.
