I was watching a couple of old toms, one stepped on its beard and it was like a horse stepping on its lead rope

wondering if anyone else ever seen that

If it was an old tom it might not of been his "beard" he was stepping on  :chuckle: :o

I've seen that a lot when they are strutting, I think it's one of the reasons we do not get extra long beards on Merriams, they are not as tall of birds as easterns. They literally walk-off their beards keeping them trimmed off. Longest I have ever taken is 11 1/4.

I've seen big toms in the winter dragging big ice balls on their beards. No doubt contributes to shorter beards.
