Looking for scope help
« on: March 31, 2012, 02:06:34 PM »
I am looking at getting a new scope for my 270 WSM but would like to mess around with shooting it 6-800 yards.  I have never had a scope with turrets or anything like that.  Any help would be great.  Also if possible under 7-800 $$.  Thanks

I have a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 on my 7mm RUM, it has the Rapid Z 800 Ballistic Reticle.  If you go to Zeiss's Website and use thier Rapid Z calculator, it has most factory data.  Just plug in the load you are gonna use it will give you all of your bullet drops.  Easy to use and it works.  I bought it for $800.  I bought it from Adventure Outfitters in Hillsboro Or.  It is tax free and he will ship it to you. This is the next one i'm going to buy for a similar use.

It has the same schott glass as the conquests.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.

Vortex Viper PST.  About as many features as you can pack in a scope at that price point plus a company with an unbeatable warranty.

Vortex stiffened up the turrets early in production (some reviews will mention this but it has been fixed).

You might want to check out the New Weaver Superslam line.  I just bought a Weaver Super Slam 4-20x50 Side Focus Matte Dual-X Reticle 30mm, they are just over $600

I bought a Vortex Viper HS long range model last year that I'm very happy with and my son has a Viper PST that he loves.  I had the custom turret made for my Viper and really like the results.  I've also used Nikons with their BDC reticle, combined with the info from Nikon's Spot-On website tool that is a good scope as well.

Around $700 for the second focal plane viper par.  The viper hs is a little cheaper.
