Another place that we like is Lincoln Rock in Orondo. It has some nice camp spots and it right on the Columbia River. It has play areas, swimming areas and basically everything kids could ever ask for.

Cranberry Lake camp ground on Whidbey Island. I think the lake is closed to fishing but Coranet Bay is really good herring fishing . And kids love bringing up five or six herring at at time . You hit it right you can fill your bucket real quick .

Thanks for all the replies, I'm going to have to check out some of those, D-Rock & Jackelope, Fish lake is really nice, I camped up there once last year and the lake was really good. Vandeman, thats a heck of an offer, it would be nice to go camping somewhere with some peace and quite with the family for once.

I'll add my own request to the thread.

My boy is 7 this summer and I'd like to get him out to an overnight. We are in snohomish county and would like to drive maybe an hour or two, have access to water for some bank fishing, and a honey bucket type restroom facility for the boy might be nice. Would love some suggestions.

If you want to camp on a river, head up the Mountain Loop. Lots of nice campgrounds with outhouses. It's an hour away max. Closest campground is at Verlot about a half hour away. Nice for day trips too. Another place up the Mountain Loop is Lake Kelcema once it is thawed out. Trail is less then a mile long and its a nice lake. I will be taking my daugter and wife for an overnight there this summer as a first backpacking overnighter for them. Short and nice for them to enjoy.

I second this vote. only problem is camp sites fill up fast later in the year, when the sockeye season opens again. Booked solid last i heard. The water is really really cold, ask me how i know :-)
