I would start with a "Desert Unit" search of this site. There have been several threads. I think there was a guy on here who's kid had the same tag, he would be a great person to PM.

Hey there Eagle Eye. Maybe you should ask "Sure Shot Mike". I hear he knows everything there is to know about deer hunting.

One tip is to be prepared to get it out and to a meat locker on Moses Lake ASAP. It will likely still be in the 90's.

it will be hot and the deer wont be moving much, best idea is to have some friends along and bird dog the cattails and russian olive thickets and try and push somethin out

 :yeah:

Deer drive. They will be all holed up in the tall wet stuff until November.

Contact Mardon resort and ask to speak with Dick Hemore. He is the most knowledgable man in the area. He is the go to guy for the game department on animal counts. He loves taking out the youth hunters and has lived in the area and worked for the Bureau of land reclamation since 1953. I got in contact with him and he told me told me to tell any youth hunters that draw to get a hold of him. The year my son drew he had taken out 4 kids and they all killed bucks; 6x4, 4x4, 4x3 and one kid shot a forkhorn out of a herd of bucks and it was the smallest. The year before my son drew Dick had taken out two hunters with 'A' tags and they killed a 31" and a 32".
We saw 40-50 bucks in the six days we hunted and that is not including double ups. We were after a herd of 12-14 bucks that had a 28" deep forked 4 point but we never got close enough for a shot with the muzzlestuffer. He connected on a nice 4x3 about 22" wide.

It's too bad the season is so short, in fact it's complete *censored* to do that to youth hunters. There was alot of bellyaching by adult hunters who couldn't draw their desert tags,so hey let's screw the youth hunters. My son after going on the hunt, he's hooked. In fact this year is his first year bowhunting.

Let's worry about ourselves and not the youth hunters, I mean hell their only our future!

Good luck, bring one back like this desert deer from last year. It is a cell pic so it is weak but the deer isn't.
