I have a question regarding the accustock on my long range hunter.  Savage says the barrel is supposed to be free floating.  However the stock at the forearm is in contact with the barrel.  Does any of you have insight into this?

wrap a dollar bill on the barrel and run it through, if it works it's all good if not than you have a problem  :twocents:

Try taking the barreled action out of the stock, then reinstalling it. Remember to follow the recommended screw tightening order.

Proper Adjustment of The AccuStock
There is a specific technique for assembling the action into the AccuStock, and it needs to be strictly adhered to as follows:

1. Ensure that the recoil lug “wedge” screw is backed out to the point where the wedge has sufficient vertical movement to allow the recoil lug to seat against the bottom of the aluminum rail.

2. With the action inserted into the stock, justify the action toward the rear of the stock to allow the recoil lug on the action to be seated against the boss on the aluminum rail.

3. Tighten the forward most screw to 10 in.-lbs. to seat the action against the aluminum rail boss, then back out one-half turn.

4. Tighten the middle action screw to 10 in.-lbs.

5. Tighten the rear action screw to 10 in.-lbs.

6. Tighten the forward action screw to 10 in.-lbs

Repeat steps four through six and increase torque value in increments up to a final torque value of 40 to 45 in.-lbs.

Note: It is extremely important to tighten per the instructions above because when you are tightening the action down into the AccuStock you are spreading the aluminum side rails and evenly moving the action down onto the base of the rail, ensuring positive engagement.

If this doesn't fix it, just get out some sand paper and slowly open up the barrel channel.

I bought the 111 LRH in 6.5x284 Norma.. noticed the same thing... just a little bit of contact right at the very end of the forend tip of the stock to the barrel. Is this your experience? The rest was ALL free floated. I did call Savage too, they did say it is supposed to be free floated and I can send it in if necessary. Investigated it more, and found out that is not really forend pressure at all, its actually just a little bit of molding left in the forend tip that BARELY touches the barrel..

SO..

If it bothers you, go get a peice of sandpaper, light grain and slide it under the barrel where it easily will enter.. sand it out and you will be fine.

For what is is worth though, if the rifle shoots REALLY well as is.. dont touch it. The accustock is completely synthetic so your not going to contend with Wheather issues.

Good luck.

I would add that through experience I found out there are only two action screws that should be torqued the third screw holds the trigger guard in place and can easily be stripped.  I took some sand paper and slowly removed the material and we are good to go!!!
