Favorite block target?
« on: May 28, 2012, 07:59:05 AM »
I'm hooked! So, as a newly converted archer (thanks to the multiple weapons permit) I love to practice shooting my bow.
Question... What is your favorite block target that can handle broadheads? Reason... This week I shredded a cheap layered target getting my bow sighted in. Thanks for your input!

Rhineharts are your best bet.

Rhineharts are your best bet.

 :yeah:
and dont shoot only broadheads.  no target will last forever, but rineharts seem to handle abuse the best.

Thanks. Which do you prefer... The 18:1 or the 4 sided more traditional block?

Yeah, I hear you about shooting only broadheads. This is a new setup for me so I wanted to dial it in with the real thing. I started with field tips and then to BH.  Now I will get back to field tips. Thanks

rinehart 18-1!
second not shooting broadheads all the time. broadheads and targets are very expensive. i wont shoot broadheads until august and then i will only shoot each one enough to confirm that it does what it needs to do. maybe 10 shots with each of the 5 broadheads in my quiver.

Good thing is with the 18-1 if you buy it threw a legit dealer. You have a 1 year guarantee that if you shoot the target out, they will replace it for free!

They will all turn to sheet.  Just a matter of time if your shooting broadheads.  Cheap Yellow jacket for me.  Buy 2x8 sheet of dow pink foam at building supply.  Cut in four, duck tape together and use for broadheads.  Cheap and works great for me.
MAGA!  Again..

That's good information. Thanks for your help. Looks like an 18:1 will be on my shopping list. Yes, if the BH is doing its job it should be cutting a hole.

:twocents: The 18-1 has been the longest lasting for me. lotsa shooting and lotsa BH. I am pretty picky about BH flight and shoot BH alot to check point of impact for reference. I have shot alot of different targets and my conclusion is, if your gonna only shoot BH prior to season buy or put together a cheap BH target to save your fieldpoint target. I have felt that "layered" targets were a waste of money. Shot em out vey fast with BH. The rhinharts dont come cheap, but I have been very satisfied with their performance and didnt feel like I got screwed.

Make my own out of expanding foam.  Been shooting the same one (with broadheads) for 12 or so years and it is still in great shape!  Easy to remove arrows, even with broadheads and will not let them penetrate very deep.  My kid has a McKenzie 3-D target and I have a hell of a time pulling my arrows out of it.

Thanks! Yeah.  Just line an old water pressure tank with a garbage bag, mix and pour in the foam tie the bag tight and let it expand.  When I shoot out a spot I just get a can of foam , stick the straw in the holes and tape it over.  It has been the best target I have shot.  I use those stick on orange target dots and move them around.
