Harvester Hardcast
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:11:28 PM »
   Good Day,
A year ago I decided to get back into the muzzleloader game after not hunting or owning one for quite a long time. The goal was to elk hunt with it. After buying the rifle, I started the process of researching bullets. After a lot of reading and listening to people that have hunted and shot elk with a ML, I decided on penetration over quick expansion. Which lead me to Harvester Hardcast bullets.
My rifle shoots them well(2" @ 100yrds). But there is very few reviews written on these bullets and I'm really looking at getting some sort of confirmation from more than one or two people that these bullets will work the way I think they will. I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad.

I shot a forkhorn with the 400 grain harvester sabotted bullet. It killed the buck but the wound channel was minimal and unimpressive. The buck was broadside at 40 yards and would have been easily killed with a patched round ball. When I shot him there was no reaction by the buck that I hit him he just walked 30 yards and tipped over dead. I also shot a 5 point mulie with a hard cast bullet made by a friend of mine made out of linotype, again it killed the buck but very unimpressively, very little damage. I've shot 8 other bucks with the old white bullets and knocked everyone of them down for the count. I am of a mindset that with muzzlestuffers I like flinging big chunks of lead. I would be really worried about shooting a bull with a harvester bullet.

Harvesters are all I've been shooting for the past decade. I've killed six elk with them and never lost an animal. Pretty good performance for me. I wouldn't be afraid to use them on deer and bear. I shoot an older TC and they group well. I took an older cow at 125 yds, uphill shot, knocked her right out of her shoes. Put your bullet where it belongs and bring your knife and fork!

I really appreciate everbodies time on this. Time is getting short now and I think I'll go with the hardcast's for the simple reason that they shoot pretty good. I was drawn for a Observitory "any bull" tag this year so I'll put it boiler room and he should be done. Thanks again.
