Questions about fishing license and carp
« on: June 10, 2012, 11:19:16 PM »
I know it says in the book a license is not required to fish for carp, but how can I prove I'm fishing for carp? I often fish for carp but what is to stop other fish like sqaws to stop biting my line. I really don't understand this law, could someone explain to me?

I cant explain it to you and I am sure that is why they put it in the regs (just like a lot of the other laws put in there)! I would just get a fishing license it will save you a lot of hassle. If they wrote you a ticket for fishing with out a license you could probably get it dropped by taking it to court but than you loose a day of work and it will probably just be cheaper in the end to get a fishing license and be done with it.

That's actually my main problem, I'm unemployed, so buying a license is not happiness right now.   :bash:  oh well, I guess better safe than sorry. Thanks for the advise anyhow.

Cheaper to buy a license then pay/fight a ticket for fishing without one.

DON'T BUY ONE! I'm sure that if you are using gear normally associated with carp then you won't have any problem... I know a buddy often uses shrimp on a hook... If you using a crank bait then it may be a lot harder to justify.  I shoot carp with a bow all the time and i refuse to buy a Fishing Lic... What i would do is print aout the WAC and other rules that state you do not need a Lic and put in a zip lock bag and take with you.  That and i'd probably leave the other non carp gear at home.

Thanks for the input guys  :).
I was just curious because i was stopped by a sheriff one time while fishing for frogs. I had forgot my wallet at home, after telling him I didn't need a license to fish for frogs, he kept asking me if a game warden would believe that story, I was using a hook and a 5ft. piece of line tied to my last eye with a small piece of power bait.

I had a cop ask me the same thing about where i was duck hunting. I told him to give the warden a call if he wanted.. Problem solved..
