Nevada 065
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:19:25 PM »
Awesome! I drew one of the 3 non-res rifle tags.Had 7 points. Going  self guided and 4 good hunting pals are coming along. We will be looking for a good one. Lots of research and work  to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Just found out also that one of the crew (Willy) drew one of the 6 Clockum Archery Elk tags here in Washington state!. We will be busy.

Have not called anyone as of yet, still learning the unit. I am not suprised the Nevada guys talk it down. They probably don't want you to apply there. It is true some of it has burned and they have got the total herd size down some but it is being managed for mature buck escapement. There are some toads living there. Now, finding one will be the trick. I will be taking a scouting trip next month.

I am getting good feed back. Not a ton of deer but a good number of mature bucks exist there. It will be work finding one but we will try!

I can't wait to hear how this hunt goes for you.  I've had 65 as a choice every year that i have applied.

Where abouts is the 065 unit? I know that there are a couple different archery draws right around Reno that hold huge mulies. Between Reno and Carson and in the hills right around the border there are some giant deer

SW of Elko is correct. There is a really good archery hunt just east of my unit in the Ruby's. It is a November rut hunt...I almost put it on my application but decided to go modern.
