Access to Toutle?
« on: June 14, 2012, 04:24:39 PM »
I am wondering if gates are open into Toutle?  My dad drew Toutle and am wondering if gates are open for scouting etc.?  We have not been in toutle before.  Thanks.

the gates will be open during modern season and maybe muzzy. The only other time is when there are guys in there working and they close and lock the gates when there done.
You can get into a small part of the toutle from the lewis river hiway by mervin dam but it is only a small part of the unit.

Yeah the state land is your only option right now, unless you want to boot in, and by boot isnt a very good option.  Best way to scout it is when you can drive it.  What tag did your dad draw?
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

Dad drew modern elk, nov. quality bull I think. He gave up on margeret.  He had 15pts I think. He has taken many bulls from winston but he wants something bigger than 5x5.  He has three of em on his wall. :chuckle:

Just outside of kid valley there is a turnoff I believe is the 2100 line where Winston is on your left and toutle on your right. Took a nice 5x5 a few miles in last year. Good luck!!

Best tag to draw for Toutle if you want to spend a decent amount of time for scouting, I would scout during modern deer, and just hunt deer in toutle.  There is a lot of both in the toutle.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
