I sure hope everyone knows I'm kidding with a lot of these posts. Having been on here for so many years I know all the "hot buttons". I did draw the Margaret Muzzy cow tag and guarantee I will bust my arse trying to fill it. I've been putting in for bull tags only for the last 20 years (unsuccessfully) so I decided to put in for a cow tag so I could actually go hunt elk in this state. The state actually did me a favor when they divided up the tags (quality, bull, antlerless) since I had max points.

Good luck.  You will go crazy in there as all the bulls will come running to you when you use a cow call.  We drew this and thought it would be a lot easier for a cow. 20+ bulls under 20 yards.  They were so worked up, the dominate bulls had ran off with there cows.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

From what I'm reading on here, lack of access points will be a big issue.

It looks like there will be 84 muzzy hunters in the unit Oct 6-12 (70 cow and 14 bull) plus any rifle hunters in there scouting. Take away all the private property, it sounds like we each have one hill side to hunt.

Weyco. has sold out and lots of the Left side of the HWY is posted "no trespassing".  Pretty much everything from east of  Elk Rock to the end at Coldwater is now no trespassing!   You can't get to the upper (east part of the unit) and you can't get into the USFS portion from the Highway either.  Basically the margaret sure ain't what it used to be.  You'll be pounding the brush in the lower elevation, or (I heard) paying for access to the private land near the Monument.   That leaves only one real place to hunt--the backcountry.

I'll be right next door hiking my (we'll you know) off in the Whittier Unit.

Fireweed, did you draw a Whittier Tag?  My brother drew one of the 2 Elk Tags for anterless in there this year. And yes we know how tough a hunt it is!

seriously? i really hope thats another funny ha-ha thing, i feel sorry for those elk if that does happen, i wouldnt go with in 100 miles of that place if it gets opened up for everyone, people will be getn shot, elk will be runnin all over riddled with bullet holes, arrows and saboted slugs, what a bad idea, but the good news is there wont be to many other units with hunters in it

:yeah:

I agree 100%.  I wouldnt be opposed to modifying the Maragret permit area boundrys some, to include everything east of coldwater lake and north to the High Lakes area, and then east and south to pick up some of the current loowit unit.  There are so many elk in loowit now, and only a handful of permits to hunt  in there.  That needs to change.
