I was wondering if anyone has the phone number to the Vail security.  I used to have a phone number to them but can't find it.  The number I had was to the people that would be opening the gate for the youth hunt.  It wasn't a 1-800 number where you had to just listen to a recording.  Someone always answered it.   I have tried to look for it but just can't seem to find it.

Instead of staying home and hunting Blacktails, Kahlen went to NM with our dad on her planned elk hunt. Opening day she shot this great 1st bull at 100 yards with her 7mm08. It was down in 20 yards with one shot.

Thank you again for your generous offer Charlie and I hope she draws the tag in the next year or two. You will be seeing my family for many years to come with more animals than most can comprehend. ;) I would love to see Kahlen kill a bigger Blacktail than me and that won't take too much. :)

Btw. Kahlen doesn't turn 11 years old until the 20th of this month. :)

Just got a call from the game department letting me know they again changed the dates for the Youth Skookumchuck Buck hunt.  They are changing it again because the vail wasn't open for the dates of the hunt.  So it is a good thing really.  The new date are at the beginning of Nov. I don't remember the exact date because I was kind of not really listening to the guy since my son already used his tag so he wont be able to hunt that tag anyway.  He said letters are going out to everyone with that tag.  Not sure about the antlerness tag holders.  I had been emailing with the game department and calling them over the date changes because we weren't able to make the dates the originally changed them too and this is my sons last year of youth hunting so getting his points back didn't work for him.  So we were trying to work something else out and when they said nothing they could really do.  I was able to find a farmer that had depredation tags because of the deer problem he has on his farm.  So the weekend the Skookumchuck was original set for (the only weekend around this time we could hunt, that is why we put in for it) so we went over and he shot a doe.  Cool....but now they come up with another date change to something we could have made but his tag is used on a doe, when he had a shot at a buck.  So I am kind of disappointed for my son, cool he did get a deer but lost a chance at a really good hunt and a really good chance at a buck.  All because our game department messed up.  But I hope it helps out some of your kids out there if you missed the hunt and now you are going to get a chance at it in Nov.  Should be a GREAT hunt in there at that time and with no hunting pressure.  Just a few tag holders will be in there.

Nephew got the same call pretty sure he said Nov 10. He too already filled his tag and won't be going but the rest of the kids should have an awesome hunt if the date is correct. Good luck kids!
