McNary Sockeye?
« on: June 16, 2012, 09:42:27 PM »
I know nothing about fishing Sockeye in the Columbia, but it pains me to see them on the fish counts in decent numbers.....

Anyone have any intel on how best to target.  What I've heard has all been about long leaders and well.....flossing them.

I know the guys down below bonny will toss out there plunking gear and when it sticks. They will snap on another leader with a tiny little red hot shot and toss it down. That way when it hits your swivel it stops and works by the current. I didn't fish down there much last year but did see 2 caught this way. I was running the dick nites down for shad and have heard of guys getting them on those as well.

Was wondering the same thing,  I think the sockeye are in such a hurry to get up river they arnt holding long enough to want to hit anything.  I keep trying though.  The shad are fun to catch and a great way to teach kids how to fight fish.

are you planning on fishing from the bank or in a boat?      If from a boat, Troll a small flasher, 14inch leader red hooks with some shrimp on them,
