Where the heck is Benge?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:36:44 PM »
Answer: northeast of Washtucna, which is northest of Kahlotus, which is out in the middle of nowhere...

I'm helping a youth with an antlerless deer tag for the Benge area in early November.  I've done some research and a bit of scouting. Lots of country, mostly private, some public. Success ratios in past year for the youth hunts are high so there are (or were) critters around.

If anyone has any information that might be helpful in our preparations, I'd be grateful to hear it.

Thank you!

Call landowners around that area. For a youth doe permitt you should have no problem getting permission and getting a deer. They are all over on the highway between washtucna and dusty

The Benge deer area does not go all the way to Dusty; it follows highway 26 east from Washtucna about 15 miles to the Palouse River. Good tip. Thank you.

There is a huge piece of public land out there that you should be able to find a doe without a problem.  PM me for directions...it is a walk in only area, but it is pretty flat.  It will be a mule deer in the area I am talking about.  I also agree with the advise given earlier about calling land owners there is no way they will say no to a youth hunting a doe.

Lot's of mule deer out there.  My boys took two last year during Christmas break.

Send me a PM and I can point you in the right direction.

Plan on shooting coyotes as well. We saw 26 in a day and a half last February. They are thick in that area.
