« on: September 20, 2012, 09:13:29 AM »
Well I decided this year I was gonna go bow hunting and I made a promis to myself that I would not take a shot on a animal unless I knew I would get a very good shot because I am not wanting to wound any animils. Well last weekend at about 30 yards I was walking along and the biggest buck I have ever seen stands up in front of me with a tree covering the kill zone I Tryed re situating for a better shot and he just bolted it was a very nice 3x4 muley with about 3 inch eye gaurds. He got away from me but I just can't get it out of my head it seems like every time I close my eyes I just picture him standing there with at big rack haha. But atleast I got multi season

It sucks sometimes, but part of the challenge of the hunt with a lesser weapon. That picture in your mind of that buck is a good one. If you had taken a shot you were not confident in and hit him wrong. You would be sick to your stomach! Many times I have watched big animals that I wanted so bad just stay out of range or walk away, oh and run away in some cases :chuckle:

You did the right thing! Sometimes the hardest decesions are the ones that we remember the most. I took up bow hunting 5 years ago and have held fast to my rule of not shooting over 40 yards at an animal. Passed up shots my first two seasons because of it. I have no regrets, would have loved to have the chance to fill the freezer but losing an animal isn't worth that chance. Killed a nice bull my 3rd season at about 12 yards.

Congrats to you for doing it the right way.

:yeah:
One of the best parts about bow hunting is all the stories of the ones that got away. Ya gotta get close. That's the good part. The real rush is closing the gap. Good luck!
