So, what did you decide on? This is an old thread but I really want a 257 and a 243. Just curious which one you chose. I remember when you posted this but don't remember if you chose one or the other.

Reload and stick with the .257 Roberts.  I love mine! My 9 year old loves it too!

in the interest of keeping things simple...... get them both lol
I'm with you on this.  I purchased both.  A Sako in the .257 Roberts and a Remington 700 in the .243.  Both great guns.  The got a wild hair and picked up a Tika .270 this season to try.
If I were to do it again.  I would get the .257 Weatherby Mag.  Really flat shooting and fast.
Cut em!

If I were choosing based only on caliber/hunting, I'd go with the Roberts.  If it were based on the rifle, I'd go with the M70.

You can run a 117 Gr. Bullet out of the Roberts which is a great combo for Deer and enjoyable to shoot.  100 grain bullets are the largest I've ever seen for the .243. Just that little bit of extra bullet makes a difference in my opinion. My father swears by his .257 Roberts.  Has killed about 25 Deer with it.

If your going to shoot Coyotes I would go with the .243.  Like everyone else said the ammo is cheap and readily available everywhere.

If you can swing it I would buy both unless another family member has dibs on the other one.  That 70 will do nothing but go up in value for life.
