Stampede Archery Elk

Anyone on here hunting this unit this year? I will be since its so close to home and I don't have a permit. I will be driving up each day that I go rather than camping, I will compare notes with anyone else interested in doing the same and wouldn't object to hunting with a couple others to maybe box in any critters we can find. WF70 will be with me on a few occasions.

Yeah get this, my boss lives right next to the Cedar River Watershed and the Muck's were in their last night shooting elk at 10 pm.  Yeah no *censored* it is really happening he saw them and herd them shoot.  What a crock of *censored* huh.  He called the CRW security and they said that they knew and there is nothing they could do about it.  The guy even went as far as saying they can even shoot them if the elk are on your land.  Well I would like to see them go onto his land.

I am considering the Stampede as well.  I have been in there a few times in the past.  Used to go in off of FS7030/  It switches to 466 just before the top of the first ridge.  Been all over the greenwater/white river unit, sucks it is permit only.  I will send you a PM before I head up there, and see what we can work out.

i hunt just down the road at cabin creek. and there are a few little groups 3 to 7 elk but nothing special. mainly just little local herds...but i have seen some big herds of 30+ head.

talked to a biologist last year and he said from easton to cle elum they have 12 cougars tracked and showed me all the data from said cougars. 7 of which are breading females. AND to make it even worse for the last 3 years the indians have really been hunting stampede and cabin creek areas due to extremely easy access and have completely whiped out the elk for the most part.

and having been hunting that area for the last 10 years (7 years in the 90's, and the 3 seasons) the elk numbers are down forsure compared to the 90's.

Okay Dekuma do that. If we can locate some elk it might help to have a few people work in on them from different angles.

BC Chaser, I don't doubt that they were in there.  The City of Seattle reached a settlement with them about a year or two ago and part of that settlement allowed them access to hunt the watershed.  I'll have to check their regs and figure out if there are any time limitations.  We've also been having problems with some poachers up in that area lately.

I have never seen big herds in these areas, unless there is a real heavy snow to push them from Rainier.  Usually just small pockets of local herds spread around.  The elk I have taken from the general area were either all alone or in small 3 to 5 animal groups.

Ive spent some time in that unit as well.  I normally ran into elk but not many bulls.

the indians have been in stampede wreaking havoc since the mid 80's. i used to hunt up there regularly 10 or so years ago and iv seen some pretty rediculous stuff. overharvest doesn't even begin to describe it... but not like its a big shocker.

Ya if u look at the stats for that unit it aint pretty. I still love that country though.  I will be up there for a weekend or so for the rifle season.
