Wetside yote
« on: January 06, 2013, 09:08:30 PM »
Was calling for bobcats in some thick stuff when a little female yote came on in.  10 yards #1 buck shot.

This is what the stand looked like.

Awesome! Coyotes in the timber are definitely a challenge!

My son (6 years old) was begging me to take him hunting yesterday.  He wanted to go Coyote hunting, but I have not seen them where I hunt on the Olympic Penn.  Looks like I need to start callin.

Congrats!

They are everywhere.  It is not easy to hunt the thick stuff but if you put in enough stands you will get lucky.

Pretty much all my stands look like this.  There is a road behind me and the wind is in my face.  The coyotes almost never want to break cover over here so they wont go out on the road to get down wind.  They end up traveling just inside the trees along the road and end up right in your lap.  The cats dont care about wind and will come in from whatever direction they happen to be.  : )

Coyote down Jan 22nd Sorry no kill shot.

Wow!  The shots on this side are so short.  I'd love to get into that.  Nice videos.

Great videos and strategy using the road to box them in.  Do you set up pretty close to the road to keep them from getting behind you, and do you set up you shooting lane parallel or perpendicular to the road?

Yea pretty close.  Just in far enough to find the best setup.   20-30 yards in max.  "shooting lane" is usually whatever the biggest clear spot I can find near a road.

Yea I have called in a few.  You just never know where they are going to come from and they are damn hard to see until they are almost on top of you.  Zero movement is a must.
