Crimson Trace Green vs Red Lasers??
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:40:14 AM »
Well, which one in better Green or Red?  The green is way more expensive, does that make it better??  Just curious as I look for a laser for a pistol.

Thanks

Johnny

Green is more visible in daylight, more powerful, and eats batteries faster, being a different color wavelength.  Everything is a compromise. :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

This oughta set you straight

http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/going-green-with-lasers/

That was a good read....but they did not specify a time range in which the green laser will overheat.  I am not worried about the cold.  Lets give the example of a home invader in my house when I am gone.  If my wife retrieves a firearm and turns on the green laser while barricaded in her room, how long before it fails.  I don't want her to have to worry about turning it on as the intruder comes through the door.  Are we talking 10 minutes or 2 hours??

depends - did you spend 300 dollars or a 1000?  :chuckle:

honestly inside a house a red laser is going to be fine, I'd only worry about a green laser if I were outdoors with it in brighter lights.

Same with the newer surveyor lasers, they are going to green so you can see the level line without a laser indicator most of the time.

Red is perfectly fine inside.  Crimson Trace Laseres have a pressure switch that is activated by finger pressure on the gun grip.  You don't turn it on and just leave it run.  You light up the red dot when you need/want it.  I have a CT red laser on my 40 Kahr, and have had it at least 2 years.  Same batteries--still good.

Not sure I want the one with the preasure switch....I am buying it for my Ruger SR40c and don't think I like the laserguard that mounts to the trigger guard.  I am more interested in the railmaster that attaches to the tac rail.  The rail master has an on off switch to the best of my understanding?  Correct me if I am wrong.  I wish the laserguard mounted to the tac rail and trigger guard...if so I would buy that one.

CT has a bunch of new models, and a catalog you should be able to get at any gun shop.  I'm not familiar with all the specs on the new models, but some of them have a switch you can push with a finger to turn them on.  They even have some new models that are visible only with night-vision equipment!
