Hunting coyotes in the rain?
« on: February 22, 2013, 07:45:22 AM »
So a buddy and I are going out for our first coyote hunt this weekend. I'm taking my new foxpro call and decoy out tomorrow and it's looking like it will be raining tomorrow. Anyone have any luck hunting coyotes here on the westside when it is raining? We plan on setting up early before sunrise, but we are unsure of how active the dogs will be in the rain. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks

Try and keep your foxpro dry (i.e. cover with a plastic bag). I have never had much luck in the rain, but if a coyote in Western Wa waited until it wasn't raining to be out looking for food it would starve  :chuckle: so they must be out at sometime during the rain (provided it isn't flat out pouring).

:) :)go get em, rain helps cover your approach. They come in  fine, since there are two shooters go a shotgun and rifle, call quiet for 5-10 mins then go loud.

You want the minimum amount of exposure, movement, and sound when getting set-up to call coyotes.  It is less about camo, and more about stealth.  So, leave the blind at home and sit in the shade of a tree or bush.
