Saw a bear tonight..and not in the way I wanted
« on: August 21, 2013, 11:53:02 PM »
Today I headed out with my girlfriend to go get a cam out of one of my elk spots in ID before I headed to work tonight. Just a quick little 25 min walk up a ridge and down the other side, there is a trail somewhat to the cam as its been cut in over the years by me and now the critters use it all the time. We were just cruisin down the hill, not being quiet as I was getting close to where I dive off the trail I noticed an object thru some brush and grass that appeared to have bear like ears..hmm...I raise the binos and YUP! thats a bear staring at us! and about a 300 lb dark chocolate bear with spider webs glued to his face and covered in pine needles and debris. Not good when a bear is head on and looking at you at 10 yards I know thru experience :chuckle:. I play it off to girlfriend as its no big deal as she is less than pleased with whats going on.  We stand there making ourselves known and thinking the bear will just run off here in a second..which turns into minutes..well this is getting interesting...I think it maybe time to get out of here..the bear then begins to move ...oh cool hes leaving... oh wait hes walking at an angle at us! (mind you we didnt bring the pistol) Have a ID bear tag, but not open yet. He lets out a huge HUFF and comes at us :yike: oh crap this isnt getting worse we gotta get out of here...I tell gf to slowly backup behind me and when bear is outta sight turn and walk up and outta here...Ill back up and watch the bear till its outta sight and we will leave. Needless to say we didnt get the cam tonight. Driving out a cow and calf bound into road almost hitting them and about a mile further a blown tire! :bash: What a great start to the day before I head to work.

The bear appeared to be a boar,My first thought was a sow and cubs...saw no sign of them or heard any noises that there was anything around. Had a big head and sway to his walk.
