Heading out tomorrow for pheasant

My dog is 10 and I want the hunt to go easy on him.

Been seeing lots of guys at Scatter Creek every morning since last Saturday. Heard some shooting right at 8:00. Must have been the kids on the weekend and the old farts during the week.

My dog got one with double spurs. Nice and fat.
Apparently not firing my shotgun since last year was not a disadvantage, as I hit him with one shot.
He was flying from right to left. No cackle. We flushed another and again no cackle.

I almost was hit by a truck. The truck stopped with inches to spare. The lady driving the truck looked hysterical.
I was in a crosswalk and she turned out of a side street. She braked just in time.
This was just outside the front door of the WDFW office.

I had my pup out yesterday for her first outing.  We saw no pheasants but the rest of the trip was 5 Star.   Molly listened, didn't run out on the highway, stayed close in the parking lot, ranged while hunting, found 5 coyote turds and was able to get in and out of my truck (it's kinda high).

Next trip..... maybe find a bird or two.......or track a bird or two.

I & 3 of my friends hunted JBLM this morning & we all came home with birds. Despite the weather had a good time watching the 2 dogs work the field, my Britt & his visula. Was checked by the post police to confirm our names were on the list.  They didn't check liscenses nor if we had non toxic shot however.

 A minor frustration, some guy with 3 beautiful English setters was all over the fields chasing down one of his setters who was having a grand time running all over the place.

While not the best hunting experience, certainly is the most convienet and allows my dog & I to hunt together every week & still be home to do the honey dos in the afternoon. All in all a good day

My dog has one bad habit. Chasing bucks, but not does.
Even going on 11, he ran about 1/4 mile after a 4 point.
Whistles and e-collars don't seem to do any good.
Came back dragging.
Whistles and e-collar work in other situations.
I think it is all those bucks outside his back yard fence. They go by day and night.

I did have one disappointment. Two of the prime pheasant lands where the grass was tall, were mowed to six inches high.
The area is CRP land. I think there was a fear of wildfire, but I don't know. There is a pond with cattails and even they were mowed.
Come the 19th, there will be a lot of uncertainly on my part.
