Heading to Cali to hunt Mr Pig
« on: December 04, 2013, 09:37:45 PM »
Purchased my tickets to head to Cali (near Santa Rosa) to hunt pigs on private property! Pretty stoked for this trip as you can imagine.

Anyway, if you were me, would you take a muzzleloader, a rifle (choice of lever action .357, .308, of 7mm) or would you take a bow. I'm an bow Hunter primarily but the trip is only 2.5days and I've never hunted these critters before. Advice greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Erik

any limit on hogs in cali? any weapon restrictions? If not why not take all three and see if you can get one each way?

I've heard pigs are pretty hard to drop with a bow.  I would take the .357 myself.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

No bag or possession limits. Any weapon as far as I can find thus far. We're hunting under a land owner/damaged agriculture permit.

.357: 200grain enough to drop one?

I've take boars in south Carolina with bow, 45acp, 25/06 and 30-30. Like any animal its all about shot placement.  good luck

I'm not positive, but you may need to use copper or other non-toxic bullets.  This may only be applicable in zones with condors, but I want to say that it's state-wide.

Good call GHMiller... I had better check on that. Thanks for heads up. We'll be near Santa Rosa.
