Yes, it's a great success. The state has succeeded in taxing hunters and fishers to fund the state parks almost completely by themselves. Everything's right as rain!  :bash:

"Brown said most states have a parks pass program, and the Discover Pass is the fifth most productive in the nation, showing that Washingtonians are willing to pay."

The above quote shows the battle. All my life WA has been a follower state. The state has always had the mentality of "it's done elsewhere, so lets do it here" especially when it comes to natural resources. It would be a lot easier for WA to eliminate the pass if no other states did it, but the fact is, most states have a similar pass!

I've been at the legislature many times and I don't know how many times I've heard, "well 90% of the states do it, and so should WA." I watched the Liquor Control Board bill hearing Tuesday and one individual said that many states including Colorado, Texas, and California all have full authority liquor officers and even Utah which is known for being anti state and federal LE has full authority liquor officers. Well to many legislators that makes it look like "holy crap were behind the times"

It just goes to show how "in the bag" the paper is... In 2 years it only raises HALF of what it should for one year, and its a sucess... Funny i wonder where they got thier definition of sucess.

I actually think our pay to play is the best way to allocate funds because you pay for the services you use. The state needs to decide if they are going to support state parks with the general fund or not, because historically people have not been willing to fork over ANY $ to go to a park.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
