Any body ever heard of WALABS
« on: February 12, 2014, 08:23:57 PM »
Im picking my pup up this weekend. this guy seems to be really passionate about his labs , he has been breeding them for over 30 years. http://www.walabs.com
I have never bird hunted but I would really love to learn. I would like to do this with my new best friend. He is a chocolate lab I cant wait.
I want a family dog that can sleep at the foot of my bed, share an ice cream cone, lick my wife's toes, and my kids nose. Can this dog also learn to be a good bird dog?
Thanks guys

You be the judge.  This was our experience with Walabs when we informed them of our concern.

Our dog was born 8/12/2013 the OFA x-ray was done on 9/9/2015 3 days before his 25 month.  According to the x-ray he has hip dysplasia.  The warranty for hips and knees according to the contract warranty required the x-ray done before 25 months of age.  Titus has never dock jumped and he has received all needed veterinarian visits another requirement of the contract.  We have all the documentation.

The owner of Walabs, Jim Young’s, response:

We won't be doing nothing.
1: its out of date Yes by only 1 month but still.
2: its not a report that explains the cause for it. IE Genetic or natural or anything.
Please understand this can be caused by many reasons.
thank you,
Jim

So again you be the judge, do you want to buy your beloved companion from this breeder?  Do yourself a favor and be more diligent than I was, select a breeder that breeds sound animals and that lives up to their commitment.

Thats really a bad combination if you think about it, but then again, all the other things dogs lick... maybe just dont share the ice cream cone.   :bdid:

Charcoal and mini labs  :yike: Sweet Jesus!!!!! Personally I would run not walk away from that situation. "Click here to order??? Weird in my opinion. There are many breeders on this site with competitive pricing if that is your bottom line.  I bought my girl from Warren at  Ireland Farms (HW member I think)...but there are many dog people on here that can help you.  My pup will do all the things listed and wrestle down a wounded goose
Good luck with whatever you decide,

Some things that strike me about his web sit: there is no such thing as a whit lab; there is no such thing as a mini lab; there is no such thing a fox red lab; there is no such thing as a silver lab; there is no such thing as a charcoal lab. There are three types of labs: black, and chocolate. Everything else is a genetic deficiency. So, he's charging huge premiums for genetically dificient dogs. Your choice here is to eat the deposit you paid, or pay a bunch more for a genetically deficient dog. The dog may be good, or may be a bust. No one knows. I got my lab Maggie, an AKC registered chocolate lab, from documented champion parents & grand parents for $800 from a reputable professional breeder. And she's a fiend on birds. You have to make your own choice, and it seems as though you already have, but anyone offering labs of a type other than black, yellow or chocolate is a fraud.
