Stoeger recall and shipping questions
« on: April 14, 2014, 09:36:42 AM »
I recently got a letter from Benelli stating that my Stoeger m3500 is subject to a recall. They sent me a UPS shipping label to send them my shotgun for replacement and an 800 number to call. I keep forgetting to bring the number in with me to work to call them though, so I am hoping maybe someone on here can answer a question for me.

Is there anything special I have to do before shipping a gun back to the manufacturer? Or is it as simple as boxing it up with the provided label and dropping it off at a UPS facility?

I seem to recall shipping to/from the manufacturer for warranty/repair work being exempt from the FFL transfer requirements, but I have been unable to find anything to confirm that.

I think they have to go express also

I just bought it a little over a month ago iirc. The letter said there was a part that wears out early in certain serial numbers of the max4 camo model. I don't remember exactly which part though because I don't have the letter in front of me, but I will check when I get home.

Okay the letter says the recall issue only affects a limited amount of serial numbers and the one registered to me is affected. The description of the issue is copied verbatim from the letter.

The problem does NOT present a safety issue. The area of concern involves improper wear of the retaining pin on the bolt body that can wear on the receiver. Again this is not a safety issue, but warrants replacement.

I have not actually taken it out yet, so it's still never been fired. Maybe I can get them to just send me the part that needs to be replaced instead of having me send the whole shotgun for replacement.
