New to the WA
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:24:39 PM »
Hey All,

I'm new to the pacific NW (last 13 yrs in TX), I'm in Lacey/Olympia.  Does anyone hunt sheds on the peninsula?  It seems like most of the traffic on here is more west of me.

A lot of the sheds are in the national park  :'(.  What isn't in the park tends to be in the same areas each year, and around March you'll see lots of quads sneaking behind the timber gates to get the sheds.

There's two major peninsulas  - Olympic and Kitsap.  No elk on Kitsap that I'm aware of.

Are you hunting for elk or deer?  I would recommend that you look at he hunting success statistics on the WDFW website for each GMU around Oly for the species you're hunting, and then concentrate your efforts on those areas that had higher success rates.  Then again, you could just go up in the Capitol Forest and wing it.

Elk.  I've checked out the WDFD site and saw the success rates you were talking about.  But I just like getting out and walking around.  I'm assuming I can get maps for GMU's?

Yea maps on the web site or in the book.  The elk managment plan is on the web site.  It breaks down the major elk herds around the state and gives there plan for each one.  i believe it will list the gmu/s with the elk herds that it refers to.
