-Grizzly introduction was briefly discussed.  WDFW is engaging with feds as a cooperating agency so they can have a seat at the table.  WDFW is very concerned about the alternatives that involve translocating bears.  They think wolves are enough of an issue right now and that even talk of grizzly introduction is horrible timing and they don't support such alternatives.

Another negative of translocating grizzlies is, they don't necessarily stay where you put them, they are very territorial and like their home ground. Alaska used to do this and a very high % end up back where they started. In as populated of a State as Washington is, there is a good chance they would get into a lot of mischief on the way home.  One bear I remember back in the 70s was darted getting into a friend of mine's garbage near Cordova and put on a boat and taken to Montague Is. in the Sound. They said it was swimming in circles confused when they dropped it overboard and finally it went ashore. That same summer it was shot and killed over the same garbage can. It had traveled over 60 miles including a swim of about 10 miles across Hinchinbrook Entrance. and another one mile swim from Hinchinbrook to the mainland.

-Hoof disease study is ongoing, they captured 78 elk and put radio collars on them.  58 "limpers" and 20 "control" elk so they can evaluate survival and productivity differences.  Very interesting...in collaring the elk they observed some animals that appeared to have healed...

Still waiting for a study on a "chemical" cause of this disease. Probably not directly related to this incident in the cattle industry, but a similar condition from aerial spraying.  One similarity is, its all done in the name of profit.

Points? Who really cares!  It is basically a lottery.  It is a no win.

Let the Grizzly's find there own way here.  They will over time and at a level that nature decides, not some geek running a computer model based on assumptions.

Great news on the point system; hopefully with Dave Ware concentrating on wolves now, he will keep his hands out of the point system.

I have to disagree with you, I have always liked the idea of a good percentage of tags going to guys with the most points.  Like Wyoming does.  I wish they would at least have a wait period for those who do draw, at least 5 years.  I've always wanted this but I don't see it ever happening.

the point system already benefits the higher point holders. Point creep would be crazy in wa if they gqve most points to max holders...

That doesn't mean spraying roundup doesn't weaken their immune system and make them more likely to develop hoof disease.

I like the idea of the points being squared.  That is enough of an advantage for higher point holders. 

What I didn't like was Dave Ware distributing everyone's points into all categories when he created the current permit system.  When I reach 65 and can start applying for senior permits, there will already be guys with a dozen points or so at my same age entering the draw for those permits.  That makes no sense.  He should have let people choose where to place their points when he started the system.

The latest idea of a separate category for high point holders was ridiculous.  I'm glad they put a stop to it.  I suspect if Dave Ware was still in charge he would have pushed for that idea.
