Oak Creek elk with weird hoof
« on: January 08, 2009, 08:31:41 PM »
Anyone see the small 5 pt bull (with Collar) that was limping. His right front hoof is growing straight out parallel with the ground and then curls up like an elk shoe? Is this the hoof rot that others are talking about? Just curious.

Sounds like his hooves need to be trimmed. I've seen it in some of out cattle when they were in soggy pastures and don't wear down the hoof.

Did it look something like these:

It did look similar to the first picture. It was just on the one hoof and he sure was favoring it.

He sure didn't like walking around. Kinda felt bad for him because all of the other bulls were pushing him around.

That bull was there last winter as well.  Glad he made it through the year.  Yeah I kind of felt bad for him too.

Yes 270 that is the bull. Did they happen to say what caused that?

On Monday I talked to the guys who go out in the truck. They said this is his third year on the winter range. They said he injured that hoof his first year and it grew like that.
