state elk kill for hoof rot?

I was told by a state employee in the woods that the state and whorehauser killed a massive amount of cows with and without hoof rot?

It was supposed to happen, just never heard that it DID happen. Not sure Weyerhaeuser would be involved in the actual killing, maybe just allowing access to their land, since that's where most of the elk are that are affected by hoof rot.

That was the reason for the "study"
The state wanted to get locations of affected elk so they could "euthanize" them.
Only thing is, they restricted access so only the highly visible and easily located ones could be counted.
At least that is what happened in my assigned area.
Locked all the gates the day before my scheduled search so we could only drive around paved areas and look at farms.

The story is.... even if one elk had hoof rot the entire herd was euthanized.

Curious, I would be definitely interested in trading my elk tag in on a permit for one of these kills, Would be great if they would allow that, (similar to using a landowner damage control tag) I wont have a lot of time for elk this year. Have Bow, Muzzleloader, and rifle Will travel

If Weyco was involved they may have provided helicopter service for them. I've seen them do that  before near the Green River and up by Vanson Peak.

If one elk limps in the heard they shoot them all happened a few yrs ago on the Winston and Margret boundary. and the timber company's helps out with the efforts. they due fly helicopters for them. While the state pulls the trigger.

Interesting, didn't know they were considering these actions. I do remember last year at the end of a short road in my late season area, finding a pile of bones and skulls. Counted about 18 antlerless skulls and skeletons, meaning cows and calves, scattered about. Seems funny that locals would have harvested that many and dumped them all in one place. This may explain it. Hmmm. It is Weyco land.

Still not sure if truth but rumors are bouncing around... near camp nine and weyco.... helicopter aided in locating.
Did see a ton of crows in the big units??
Wdfw's management is terrible... nothing would surprise me.

I don't believe any of it. WDFW has let the hunters do their dirty work for them. A few thousand cow tags a year for the last few years puts a hurtin on them. Add hoof rot and predators and the numbers plummet.

As for the bones Piscatory found. Probably locals dumping carcasses. Even if they did shoot them WDFW and the timber companies aren't going to round up a bunch of carcasses and drop them in 1 place.

I know this state and their fish and wildlife mismanagement dept. Suck. And they are great at mismanaging the resources. But I haven't seen or heard anything that makes me even start to believe this stuff. YET!

If any of you have anything that backs these rumors up. Show me and I will reconsider. I'm always looking for a reason to hate WDFW a little more!

Never have trusted the state with anything.
