I would take at least the batteries out. The batteries corroded the terminals in my Bushnell over the winter and ruined the camera. It's cheap insurance  :twocents:

Good timing.

I literally threw a trail cam away yesterday

I was lazy and batteries in all 4 of mine.   Dug them out yesterday to place them this weekend, and will only be placing 3.

Two batteries leaked.    I am lucky they were in the same camera.

Most cameras I keep the batteries in and have never had an issue over time and with tons of cameras.  However, my 7D2 drains the battery for some reason.  I'm told that even when you turn it off the gps is still running.  Either way, I have to pull the batter on just that cam.  You can leave cards in your camera forever with no issues.

I lost a cam this year due to not removing batteries.   :bdid:

My 6D would do the same, about 25% per day, so I registered the GPS to the Favorites menu so the 5 times I actually used it, it was easy to find and shut off. I rarely used it anyway. One notable time was on a tour bus whilst traveling old Boston, but for regular landscapes I don't find a need for it, myself. I think Canon's attitude in designing it that was was due to the amount of time it takes to acquire the GPS signal being unpaletable to user friendliness.

I've noticed that the Kirkland brand batteries seem to leak in just about everything I use them in for some reason. My LED flashlights and headlamps being the worst culprits.

I bought a couple new cams this year and put the lithium ones in them. I'm hoping that they don't leak cause I'd like to keep them out through the winter this year.

How long have you left them in the cam before they leaked?  I have been using the same batteries for the last 2 years, running 12 cams, gone through 3-4 of the big packs of AA's and have not had 1 issue, but I do all video's so change out batteries every 2-4 weeks. I Remove them from cams when not in use.
